Tropical destination weddings are always a great idea, especially if you have a small guest list. There are so many amazing destinations throughout the world, but sometimes it isn’t always easy going too far away. If you are a based in the United States of America, you have so many amazing tropical options all around the continent. Places within the United States, Mexico, or even the Caribbean. If you are looking to host your destination wedding within the United States you have options such as Hawaii on the West Coast, or even Florida on the East Coast. For those couples who want to feel like they are away from the United States and give their guests a much needed vacation, why not consider hosting your destination wedding on the island of St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands. Here are my 4 favorite reasons why St. Thomas Virgin Islands should be your first choice for hosting a destination wedding.
Since St. Thomas is a United States territory, you do not need a passport. There are plenty of Americans who have never traveled outside of the United States and do not have a passport. This is the perfect place to explore somewhere exotic, without needing a passport.
In St. Thomas, since it is a United States territory, there is no need to exchange currency. You have the ability to pay everything with the US dollar. This makes traveling easy and not having to worry about any exchange rates or hidden fees.
For those of you on the East Coast, you have the ability to hop, skip, and jump to St. Thomas. Whereas for those on the West Coast, you have a little longer of a flight, with a stop in Houston or Miami, but it is still VERY easy to get to the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are plenty of airlines that charter to St. Thomas such as American Airlines, Spirit, United, and Delta.
Another great reasons why St. Thomas should be your destination wedding island is because you don’t have to worry about your phone company charging you extra per day just to be on your phone. St. Thomas is considered a domestic network and will not affect your phone plan. No need to worry about those nasty extra charges to your phone bill at the end of the month.
For those couples looking to host a micro destination wedding with a small guest list, consider looking for a property that can host everyone. There are so many beautiful venues, hotels, and even private rentals that you can reserve for your destination wedding. Consider hosting your small and luxurious destination wedding at one of the many exquisite Caribbean Rentals properties. For example, the Estate St. Pete property is a fabulous choice for your destination wedding. It sleeps about 20 (maybe a little more) people, and has the perfect views to really WOW your wedding guests. Also, you will have a full time private chef cooking delicious Caribbean cuisine, you will have a private pool, private hot tub, and so much more! There are plenty of patios, balcony, roof decks, and gazebos to host your wedding ceremony and reception on. All in walking distance from your guests bedrooms. Besides everything I have already mentioned, the best part about having a private estate wedding, is that you do not have other hotel guests intruding on your wedding ceremony or reception. Basically, hosting your destination wedding at one of Caribbean Rentals estates is a win-win!
Check out this beautiful wedding ceremony and reception at Estate St. Pete. Hopefully this inspires you to say, “YES!”, to doing a destination wedding at this estate in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands.
Directly across the driveway from the estate, there is a little tropical jungle, perfect for your sunsets photography session. While your guests are enjoying cocktail hour, you can walk 10 yards to this gorgeous oasis, which looks like you travel so far to get too! Yet another reason to say yes to hosting your wedding at this estate.
If you would rather hop in the car and drive to the beach for your sunset couples photography, I suggest making your way to Magens Bay Beach. It was about a 7 minute drive from the estate, and your guests won’t even realize you left as they enjoy tropical drinks from Movers & Shakers VI and delicious Caribbean bites from Love Farms VI during cocktail hour. Doing your sunset session at the beach gives you the best of both worlds! You will have amazing views during ceremony at the estate, and then enjoy the warm water and the feeling of sand between your toes. I do suggest having a second dress for your reception if you plan to do this because your wedding dress will be dirty and/or wet after your session. This is the perfect opportunity to put on the cute little cocktail wedding dress and feel comfortable for the rest of the night!
The day after your wedding, rather than hanging around the estate, take your wedding guests on a catamaran cruise and show them more of these stunning and exotic islands. It is the perfect way to keep the party going and give your guests something to remember for a life time! Take them on a booze cruise around these exquisite islands, where they can snorkel with exotic fish, order delicious pizza from a boat (yes, there is a boat that makes pizzas and charters them to your boat), or even sun bath on the catamaran trampolines. Pre-book your adventure with Voodoo cruises, for a 10/10 experience!
If you choose to get married on this incredible island, I highly suggest working with vendors you trust. Here are some of the Instagram accounts of he vendors I enjoyed working with that this bride hired for her wedding day:
Florist: @budsandrosesfiori
Beauty: @makeupbyadrielortiz
Bar: @Moversandshakersvi
Chef: @love_farms_vi
Band: @lourdesandtheswitch
Officiant: @islandweddingservices
Invitations: @sweetdatesprints_
Catamaran: @voodoo_vi
It is very important that you hire a wedding planner that you trust. You want someone who has a relationship with other vendors on the island, takes care of all the planning and communication for you, and be there to set up your wedding day. Here are some wedding and event planners I suggest connecting with for your dream destination wedding in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands:
I hope you have the most wonderful experience planning your destination wedding on this beautiful tropical island. If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out! I am always happy to help couples plan their dream wedding.
