I love capturing newborn sessions because there is so much love and joy in each parent eyes as they look at their sweet baby. One of my favorite things about shooting newborn sessions in my clients homes, are seeing how creative they are when it comes to decorating their baby’s nursery. There are so many different themes that can be done for a baby girl, a baby boy, or even gender neutral ideas. For girls you can decorate the room with pretty florals or pink ribbons, with boys you can do race cars and sports, and for a gender neutral room you can decorate with animals. Here are some fun examples that some of my clients have done in the past.
One of the cutest rooms I have ever seen was this adorable ocean and marine animal themed room. My client found beautiful ocean wave wallpaper and put that along one wall. All of the light fixtures were made out of tropical plants, that were woven together. There was even a woven mini surf board that they used as art decor. Even the dresser was adorable, where each handle was a different marine life animal made out of wood. Every little detail was extremely precious and the perfect touch for this baby boys first bedroom. Yes, the wallpaper is blue, which is typically symbolizing a baby boy, but this nursery theme really could be for both a girl or a boy. Although, this client used this theme for their precious baby boy.
If you are wanting to design your baby’s nursery to be a gender neutral design, why not use animals? There are so many different themes one can do when using animals. For example, you can use wild animals, or farm animal artwork. As seen in the photos below, you can see a wide range of different animal prints or themes you can use for your own newborns nursery.
For those of you who are wanting to design a baby girls nursery, pink is always the way to go! From pink polka-dots, to pink flowers, you can’t go wrong with anything and everything pink! One of my clients decorated their baby girl’s nursery with these big 3D flowers that stuck to the wall. I loved that they weren’t just prints, but demential shapes. It just added that little extra special touch to the room. Without a doubt, this room was so precious and the perfect idea for a baby girls nursery.
For those of you who want to design a nursery for their baby boy, you can do all blue details, or you can use sports as a theme. It’s really the perfect theme for a baby boy nursery because there are so many different sports. Here are two different examples of sport themes based on each clients personal favorite sport.
One client in particular lived in San Francisco, but was born in LA, so naturally they are a Dodgers fan. This baby boys room had a little LA Dodger hat hanging as well as illustrations of the Dodger stadium. This husband expressed to me that it was nostalgic for him, and he wanted to bring a little bit of his childhood into his child’s life. Such a cute thought and a really adorable theme!
One client chose a race car theme for his baby boy’s nursery as a heartfelt tribute to his family’s legacy and his grandfather’s passion for the sport. The client’s grandfather once owned an Indy 500 race team, making this theme deeply personal and meaningful. The race car motif not only honors a cherished family history but also introduces the baby to the excitement and tradition of racing from a young age. This theme beautifully intertwines family heritage with a sense of adventure, ensuring that the nursery is not only a space of comfort, but also a celebration of legacy and aspiration. In this case, it’s perfect for this client, but for your baby boy nursery theme as well.
Another adorable gender neural baby nursery theme is the sun and sky. This theme radiates warmth and positivity, capturing the joyful essence of new beginnings. The symbol of the sun brightens the room and brings joy. Incorporating elements like fluffy clouds, twinkling stars, and gentle rainbows adds a whimsical touch, fostering a sense of wonder and imagination. This timeless and inclusive theme transcends traditional gender stereotypes, allowing for a versatile and harmonious space that celebrates the pure and universal joy of childhood.
In summary, if you are thinking about creating a theme for your newborn nursery, DO IT! There are so many adorable themes that can be used: Pink Flowers for a baby girl, sports for a boy, under the sea blue water theme for a boy, and even animals or sky for a gender neutral theme. So many adorable baby nursery themes to choose from and hopefully this article helps you decide which theme works for your newborn.
