Holman Ranch has that rare quality of feeling like two places at once. It sits in the hills above Carmel Valley. The architecture reads like a Tuscan estate with the soul of a working ranch. It is truly one of my all-time favorite wedding venues in Northern California. It’s the perfect place for a western wedding editorial.
A few years back, I had the honor of capturing a stunning luxury wedding with a western hint. Since then, I had been dreaming up my very own western wedding editorial at Holman Ranch. This editorial is what happened when I stopped imagining and started planning. It is a creative collaboration with some of my favorite vendors in Northern California. I am forever grateful that this western wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty.

When it came to designing the editorial, I thought about what makes up the Wild West. Certain patterns, native florals, horseshoes, leather, and more. Textures that feel earned, not styled. I leaned into the cinematic world of Yellowstone, where the landscape does half the storytelling. For the floral design, I told Friday Flowers I wanted arrangements that looked picked from the grounds. Native California flowers fit the more historical, lived-in feeling I was after. Leather and horseshoes had to show up too. They are the symbols and textures that define western style.

For the wedding editorial, I imagined our couple renting Holman Ranch for the full weekend. This is one of the most underrated reasons luxury couples choose the venue. If this were a wedding, they would host an intimate welcome dinner by the barn for loved ones.
The table was dressed in linens with a western-styled pattern from BBJ La Tavola. Centerpieces of vibrant lilac and soft orange California blooms complemented the linens. I asked Friday Flowers to keep the wedding day arrangements a little looser. For the welcome dinner, I wanted something more polished.

The details are where this wedding editorial really leaned into the western theme. The florist designed a floral horseshoe for the ceremony, framing the couple against the Carmel Valley mountains.
At cocktail hour, Soulful x Sips poured western-inspired signature cocktails from a custom emerald-green bar and lounge. The bar was a dream to photograph and really made a statement. My personal favorite touch was the leather paper goods. The leather menus, table numbers, and name cards all deepened the western theme. Plus, the horseshoes at each seat were a fabulous additional western touch.

Planning all of the fashion for this western wedding editorial was truly my favorite part. For bridal, I knew I wanted Rue De Seine. Their most recent collection had the perfect luxurious, western-inspired feel. Thankfully, a local Los Gatos salon, Lovely Bride, carried the line. I pulled a gown for every segment of a wedding day: welcome event, ceremony, reception, sunset session, and more.
For the groom, I turned to Friar Tux, a brand I have worked with for many real weddings. Their selection of suit colors and sizes never disappoints.
I wish we could have had a custom hat station at cocktail hour. Due to distance, the Rancher Hat Bar could not physically join the shoot. They still sent over custom hats for the bride and groom.
For jewelry, I collaborated with Virgins Saints & Angels. Their pieces ranged from religious ceremony symbols to turquoise stones and a bolo tie for the groom. It was the perfect line for this editorial.

One of my favorite pieces was the cake, designed by Jamie from Cake by Jamie Li. Before sketching, Jamie asked to see the floral concept. I love a vendor who wants to collaborate that deeply. What she created was magnificent.
The three-tier design balanced clean modern lines with soft western texture. Dried palm spears, baby’s breath, bunny tails, and billy balls echoed the day’s florals. A sage silk ribbon at the base of the stand was the perfect finishing touch.

This editorial started as a quiet dream and became one of my favorite creative projects to date. Holman Ranch, western style, Italian architecture, and a nod to my grandfather in his cowboy boots. A team of vendors I love poured their hearts into making it feel real.
The result was proof that a luxury wedding can hold two worlds at once. Italy and the American West. Couture and cowboy. Holman Ranch is the rare venue that lets a couple live beautifully in that in between.
