For couples dreaming of a destination wedding somewhere truly tropical, the Caribbean delivers magic that other destinations cannot replicate. I have photographed weddings from the U.S. Virgin Islands to the Caribbean coast of Belize. Each one has reminded me why couples keep choosing this region for the most important day of their lives. Here is why I love it too.

Light in the tropics has a quality that photographers wait for entire careers. Soft and warm in the morning. Crisp and bright at midday. Golden and dreamy in the late afternoon. Pink and lavender at sunset over still water. The Caribbean glows.
It also flatters everything. Bridal portraits catch the light like silk. Florals stay saturated without help. Skin glows naturally. Even rain in the Caribbean has a softness that turns into atmosphere instead of disappointment.
St. Thomas and the U.S. Virgin Islands
St. Thomas U. S. Virgin Islands is one of the most iconic Caribbean wedding destinations. Lush green hills falling into turquoise water. Cliffside resorts with panoramic views. The kind of beach ceremonies that look pulled from a magazine. The Virgin Islands have a particular advantage for American couples. No passport is required for U.S. citizens visiting St. Thomas, St. John, or St. Croix. The legal logistics are simpler than international Caribbean destinations. Your wedding can feel international while staying domestically straightforward. For photography, St. Thomas offers everything: ocean cliffs, palm-lined coves, historic chapels, and resort grounds with cinematic views.

Belize and the Caribbean Coast
Belize is the Caribbean’s best-kept secret for luxury destination weddings. Private island resorts, jungle ceremonies, and beaches that feel like they belong only to you. Belize is wilder than the more developed Caribbean islands. That wildness is part of its magic!
The country also offers something rare: privacy. Many Belize wedding venues are private islands or remote properties. Your wedding becomes a true escape, with only your closest people present. No resort crowds, no tourist commotion.
For photography, Belize is extraordinary. Coastal mangroves, cenotes, ruined Mayan temples, and the world’s second-largest barrier reef. Few Caribbean destinations offer this kind of visual variety in one place.

Caribbean wedding culture moves at the pace of the islands. Slower. Warmer. More relaxed than mainland weddings. Long beach lunches. Sunset ceremonies. Late-night dancing under string lights with the ocean as your soundtrack.
For your guests, this becomes a vacation as much as a wedding. Most couples plan three or four day weekends in the Caribbean. Welcome events, the wedding itself, and farewell brunches. The whole celebration unfolds at island time.
For your photographs, the relaxed pace means more atmospheric moments. More golden hour. More quiet portraits. In the kind of light that does not exist anywhere else in the world.

Caribbean wedding season runs from late November through early June. These months avoid the hurricane season (June through November) and offer the best weather for outdoor ceremonies.
The peak months for tropical perfection are January through May. Warm temperatures, low humidity, minimal rain. Hurricane season weddings are possible, but riskier.
If you are flexible on dates and willing to monitor weather closely, off-season Caribbean weddings can be beautiful. They are also significantly more affordable.

If a Caribbean destination wedding is on your list, I would love to be part of it.
I travel from California for weddings throughout the Caribbean, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Belize, and beyond. Each Caribbean wedding is a chance to photograph in some of the most beautiful light on earth.
